Identifying Carpenter Ants

When you have a pest problem in your home, it can often become stressful and make you feel rather overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. The biggest pest problems you can encounter are usually ants and roaches. When you have an ant infestation, there are several different types of ants, the more difficult ones being the Carpenter Ant. Carpenter ant control is a bit more complicated than other types of ant control. Though they are difficult to get rid of and can equally be as difficult to identify. Luckily, there is a way to identify these pests, and banish them from your home.

To identify the carpenter ant, you must see if there are special markings on their body. For instance, do they have a rounded body with no humps? If so that is a dead giveaway you are dealing with these nasty little things. Another way to identify the carpenter ant is to look at their waist. If they have a pyramid like pedicel, you are dealing with the carpenter ant.

While it is very tricky to identify these ants, and you may be wondering how you will even have a chance to look at the ants profile before it moves. To identify the ant, you can take a glass or plastic cup, jar, or whatever is available to you to trap the pest while you inspect it. From there, it cannot get away and you will be able to check for the above listed physical descriptions of a carpenter ant.

Getting rid of these ants can be done in a variety of ways. You can do it yourself by spraying non toxic (to pets and humans) aerosol around the areas of the nest, or call in the professionals, just to name a few. To keep out future nests of carpenter ants is pretty easy and not very expensive.

You can seal all the cracks in your doors and windows, replace damaged wood in your home, and, if you have a fireplace, you can keep your firewood away from your home so these ants won’t be attracted and start  invading again.

Dealing with pests can be frustrating and take a toll on people. But luckily, there are easy ways to identify these types of ants, and do-it-yourself ways to get rid of them and keep them out of your home in the future. You don’t have to live with these offensive creatures, and can get rid of them and get back to living a carpenter ant free life.
